From Excel Chaos to a Digital Learning Culture: Our Journey to Process Automation with Cornerstone OnDemand

Prior to the implementation of our Learning Management System (LMS) from Cornerstone, our learning and training processes were based on established but partly manual structures. Mandatory training programmes, including those focused on compliance, were meticulously organised, albeit without a centralised platform, relying instead on Excel spreadsheets. Decentralisation of processes for coordinating further training activities and onboarding new colleagues was also implemented, and these processes were found to be resource-intensive.

Given our growth targets and the increasing demand for efficiency and transparency, it quickly became clear that we needed a scalable solution — one that would not only streamline learning, but also embed it as a strategic element of our corporate culture

Implementation

We chose the Cornerstone OnDemand learning management system as it fully aligns with our needs. The implementation was carried out in four phases:

1. Planning: Defining objectives, assigning responsibilities, and establishing a realistic timeline

2. Implementation: Adapting and configuring the system to align with our organizational processes

3. Test Operation: Conducting technical and content-related tests with selected user groups

4. Rollout: Gradual introduction across the entire organization, supported by training and internal communication efforts

Results

With the introduction of Cornerstone OnDemand, we were able to take our learning and development processes to a new level. The automation of numerous processes led to a noticeable reduction in our administrative resources and increased the efficiency of our entire training management. At the same time, the centralized mapping of all learning activities creates a high degree of transparency - both for managers and for the employees themselves.

Individual support is a particular added value: personalized learning paths provide targeted support for professional and personal development and make learning an integral part of everyday working life. Last but not least, our audit-proof documentation of all mandatory training courses ensures complete traceability - a decisive advantage in terms of compliance and certification.

 

Conclusion

The digitalization of our learning processes marked a strategic milestone. We have not only enhanced efficiency, but also fostered a modern learning culture where employees can actively shape their own development.
